“If on your journey, you should encounter God, God will be cut!”
Few besides Quentin Tarantino could author such an arrogant and exquisite line. Spoken by Hattori Hanzo upon gifting the “yellow-haired warrior” (Uma Thurman) his newest and finest samurai sword, so she can exact her revenge. Her maternity is what makes the dialogue brilliant. The Soundtrack for this scene is James Last’s “The Lonely Shepherd” (1977). You can find the live performance in part 1.

I’ll share the Hattori Hanzo scene in next montage (1-3 months away). I’m realizing, too late perhaps, my personal assignment with this edit, and that is to chill-out Tarantino as much as possible. This got me thinking about the sacred, dynamic relationship that exists between director and editor. Here is Tarantino and long-time editor, Sally Menke on how they edit together. I found it super interesting.

Loving BTS stuff! Followed by rabbit hole into Tarantino’s interviews. 😁

After that clip, I’m extra grateful for their labour. One knows how little patience I have for super slow pacing. I tend to need that magical rhythm, always.

Yeah Tarantino scenes can last a very long time. The Pulp Diction Date sequence is still very long, even after they edited it down considerably.

I haven’t watched Pulp Fiction for a while. Interestingly, I don’t remember thinking of it as too long. Or, perhaps I did and I forgot because there’s so much else to pay attention to in the scene, and the movie as a whole.

Tarantino is great; about time we had a new film from him —

Didn’t he retire after the last one?

He was going to make one more (#10) and then retire. It was going to be called, “The Movie Critic” with Brad Pitt reprising his ‘Once Upon A Time in Hollywood’ role as Cliff Booth. However, he scrapped the idea earlier this year.

Hi EF, sorry I’ve missed a couple of your recent posts but I’ve had a few “technical issues” that prevented me commenting etc. I just checked out the video you posted in part 1 and I don’t think I’ve ever heard Rieu give a bad performance (I’ve heard quite a few of his shows as my Mother-in-law is a fan of his).
And sometimes there is just an uncanny chemistry between two artists for example Rogers and Hammerstein….and Tarantino and Menke certainly share that trait.

Never a worry, my friend. Neat that you’ve heard other performances by Rieu!👍🖖

Quentin Tarantino is one of those lucky few writers whose name has become an adjective, up there with Kafka, Lovecraft, and Orwell, and others.

I over-use the adjective, “Orwellian;” it’s simply irresistible.
