Joker: Folie à Deux Trailer

It was a day. Came home around midnight buzzing like a fridge and ugly cried watching this trailer. Been dancing The Carlton ever since! (Maybe this is why I have heart problems🤔)😅

  1. I saw the trailer sitting here in an internet cafe in downtown Vancouver, away from my usual library haunt. I liked it. I think it’ll do well at the box office.

    A few observations:

The colors of the 4 umbrellas raised up around the drab prisoner were striking. They showed the use of contrast and juxtaposition.

Lady Gaga seems to have a few acting chops. I wonder if she sings in this? I’m generally not a fan of actresses (I prefer men) but I can tolerate her, I think.

Phoenix is a fine actor. I’ve liked him ever since his turn as the Emperor in GLADIATOR (Gladiator 2 is coming out soon.) He’s the main reason I’d go see this film.

    1. Thanks for reminding me about Gladiator 2. I thought it was a dream, but it’s really happening.

The 4 umbrellas is also neat bc they are black in the first shot. And then colored in the next, from bird’s eye POV.

They will both be singing. It’s being described as a “juke-box” musical. Popular numbers of various genres sung and performed (Correction: Less singing, according to director, Phillips – I have since learned. But probably some?) by the leads.

    2. Oh man, you have issues (“I’m generally not a fan of actresses”) and from what I read in some of your blogs you’re not a fan of women in general. It must be hard to live in a world with so many women. I hope you can find a way to deal with this (therapy helps).

To be clear, I’m not judging, since I have general (stupid people) issues as well. 😉

  2. Hi EF, I managed to watch Joker whilst on my flight home from New Zealand last year and it was phenomenal. The depths Phoenix went to was scarily real and you could see how each “blow” from society and life dragged him further towards the Joker persona. If this film is only half as good it’ll still be a must see.
(And on a funny side note: many years ago I was club/bar entertainer and worked in a cabaret trio that sang, danced and played live whilst dressed in full costume….well I had to learn “The Carlton” for a comedy skit that we performed. It wasn’t unusual to see me dancing all night 🤣😎).

  3. I liked “Joker” well enough but I haven’t been able to get excited about this for some reason. I guess I didn’t feel like it needed a sequel, plus I can’t picture a non-Margot Robbie version of Harley Quinn. But will I watch it when it arrives on MAX? Of course I will.

  4. This sounds like more of a musical than anything else, so I’m v-e-r-y unsure of how much I’ll like this. Phoenix did a great job in the earlier film, and I’m sure if nothing else works in the movie…he will.

  5. It’s gonna be an extra special birthday this year!

Simultaneously amazed/repulsed/horrified/riveted by Joaquin in the first one. Sooooo incredible, his talent. I hope this one’s just as powerful. 🙂

    1. I recommend to skip. Unless☝️ You are a serious fan of Joaquin Phoenix or the Joker character. It is a tale of trauma to explain the origins of his mental illness and murdering derangement. Just be prepared for a depressing experience, is all. I am more excited for Joker 2 bc I feel like Gaga will brighten the mood a little – like a candle in a dark room

      1. I see. I was not sure what to expect, but I made it my mission to be informed on all DC and Marvel movies. At least he cinema releases. I’m behind now quite a bit.

  6. Great post. Definitely looking forward to watching this film soon. I was such a huge fan of the first Joker film which raised the bar for the comic-book film genre. It was a spectacular introduction to the character. Joaquin Phoenix was extraordinary. Given how good the first movie was, this sequel definitely has lot to live up to. I’m curious to see whether it will deliver.
