“There’s no crying in baseball!” -A League of Their Own
In the home dugout at the local high school hangs a plaque full of pithy axioms from the baseball gods. Clean motivation to chew on while you wait to strikeout again. “Believe or Leave.” Reads like a punchline for a Who’s Line Is It Anyway? sketch. “See the ball hit the ball.” Reds Hall’er, Tony Perez.
My new favorite bite-sized stoic snack is, “Win The Inning.” I’ve lost my mind again. And rather than justify it in a 900 page Op-Ed, this inning I’ll simply own it. May not be a win on the scoreboard but it’s a win in the skipper’s heart. (Awws from the studio audience).

Uh, I’m getting old. I remember the line, but not any of the details around it. 😅

You have to believe in yourself, I think. No one else can or will do that for you. Self-belief is like self-love: a vital pre-condition element in the makeup of a healthy, functioning adult, but both are all too often absent in ordinary men.

The Self is as difficult to love as anyone. Perhaps proving it’s the illusion the mystics say it is. But I’m merely speculating from an unknown vantage point🙃

No in Baseball, no in Football, nowhere is crying allowed, only after winning the inning is it permitted!! 🧐✌🖖

Good question. I’m not confident in my rank order but some of my favs are def: Space Jam, A League of Their Own, The Sandlot, Rocky, Remember The Titans…. I heard the new “F1” with Brad Pitt was good. How about you?

Good list! The F1 film was good but I did prefer Maverick from the same producers. Not in order either, but Rocky, Field of Dreams, Prefontaine, Rush and Remember the Titans. I do have a soft spot for Bring it on too.
