Release Date: November 24, 2021
Plot: Spanning three decades of love, betrayal, decadence, revenge, and ultimately murder, we see what a name means, what it’s worth, and how far a family will go for control (IMDb).
Time to place your bets on which of these A-list stars will have the worst Italian accent!๐ Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Al Pacino, Salma Hayek, or Jeremy Irons. We know it’s not going to be Pacino (The Godfather). And I think Gaga actually sounds pretty good here! After all she is Italian, as she reminds us on every possible occasion it seems. Haha
The trailer has me excited for this! It looks gorgeous, and has a very strong cast, and legendary director in Ridley Scott. But I do wonder how much the trailer might be elevating this movie though. Will the story and characters prove to be compelling? The story is adapted, and neither writer (Roberto Bentivegna, and Becky Johnston) has very many credits to their resume. Johnston wrote Prince of Tides in 1991, and only two movies since then. At the least, I expect House of Gucci to be a fun and fashionable experience.
What do you think of the trailer? Are you looking forward to this movie? Or planning on skipping it.

Hi EF, I’m afraid it sounds like Jared Leto and Adam Driver are gonna be vying for first place for worst accent…I’m fairly sure I heard Adam already drop it when he says “You’re mah family”. I think ita should sounda like “You’ra ma familia” ๐คฃ And I can say this having a bit of experience with Italian accents, as I performed as Mr Emanuelli in “Once a Catholic” whilst at college. It was quite amusing as I am a musician/stage technician but had to act in at least one play for my course and I was in my first year…oh and the performance took place in front of a real audience with local newspaper critics – so no pressure. I read the newspaper the next day and found I had been singled out for my performance! To say the more experienced second year students weren’t very happy is an understatement.
Back to the film though, it does look interesting and a lot of effort production-wise has gone into it.

And if it is Kylo Ren with the bad accent Iโm not going to say anything! Lest I suffer a firey light saber wrath๐ฅ๐
I am not surprised your performance as Mr. Emanuelli was the talk of the paper the next morning. You are a an artist AND a showman! Bravo Bravo๐๐ป๐

Ridley Scott’s apogee was Gladiator, the swords-and-sandals popcorn flick he made with Russell Crowe. Since then it has been hit or miss for Mr. Scott. Taking a leaf from Blade Runner, House of Gucci is about style as much as it is about substance. Whether style can hold a candle to substance is an issue that remains to be seen.

Well said. “Style over substance” seems apropos to Gucci. I hope it proves to have some substance, but I’m not getting my hopes up.
I agree, Gladiator was Ridley Scott’s peak. Did you see American Gangster (2007)? With Russel Crowe and Denzel Washington? I thought it was a pretty good effort from Scott. A rise and fall, drug kingpin / family story. Similar vibes to the present, “Gucci.” Hoping Gucci will have the same energy and continuity of storytelling.
