Supposed to be talking about ambition. So just imagine, in a few years time Baby Doll could be dancing her own ABBA routine. Once we solve the technical challenge of making Emily Browning and Abbie Cornish actually dance, the sky’s the limit. Baby will have plenty of other scenes before then. Just not strictly dancing, since there is none in the movie to begin with— it’s greatest weakness, perhaps.

February 17, 2026 begins the year of the ‘Fire Horse’ in the Chinese Zodiac. Ever since Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) EF’s artistic choices have been guided by this mythology. First subliminally. Then consciously.

You can guess the attributes of The Fire Horse. But here is something I’ll bet you didn’t know. There is superstition in Japan that women born in the year of The Fire Horse are destined to kill their husband. That is why in 1966, the last most recent year of The Fire Horse, birth rates in Japan dropped 20%!

Enter, The Bride. Tarantino is re-releasing Kill Bill to the Big Screen Dec. 5th. “The Whole Bloody Affair” Parts 1 and 2 put together as The Master intended. One intermission in between. He’s calling it, “The Whole Bloody Affair.” You know I’ll be there for it.

  1. A recent tv show set in the 80s with kids rebelling made me think of The Goldbergs. Set in that time, those kids were always fighting back against rules and logic alike. Of course, the rebellion movies from the 80s themselves included Fast Times At Ridgemont High, Footloose, The Breakfast Club, and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. All examples of teens taking matters into their own hands. It is almost candy cane time for me, as I start to pivot from pumpkin creme cold brew to peppermint mocha. Still, I will gladly accept my candy cane grams “early.”😁

    2. I can’t really offer any suggestions, EF, I’d say go with what you feel best. But being that I grew up in the 80s, I concur Bruce’s suggestions about 80s movies. I’d even add Somekind of Wonderful to go with the John Hughes theme, ahah.

      Fun post, and boy I did not know about the Japanese superstition about women born in the year of The Fire Horse [gasp!] 😀

        I found this edit for Muse’s Exogenisis Parts 1, 2 and 3.

        I thought of you because this guy must’ve gone to film school too.

        Hope you can check it out. The edit is a montage of at least a dozen sci-fi movies set to the music.

        As much as I love this video, I figured you would have a better technical appreciation for it.

      2. Good find! Liked and Subscribed. The Resistance is one of my favorite albums. Muse was my fav band when that dropped 2009-2010 especially.

        Great edit— 10 years old even. The Wormhole is my NEMESIS! Ahhh I’ve tried and failed several times. One of these days I’ll get it right— should study this video to figure out what he did.

        We editors stand on the shoulders of technical titans— VFX wizards. How many millions of man hours went into crafting all of the apocalyptic VFX shots, I cannot say. But they are astonishing shots. Roland Emmerich is King IMO. Using at least 3 of his movies in the new EF montage: Independence Day, The Patriot, and The Day After Tomorrow…

      3. Nice. Muse has been one of my favorite bands for the last 20 years. My wife got us tickets for my birthday back in 2019 at the Sports Arena (now named after one of the casinos).
        Was truly an incredible show. They even had what looked like those Tron warriors with the laser poles. Lots of visual effects to go with the music. Amazing that could all be put together on stage for a live show.
        I used to think the Exogenisis 3 part video I shared with you was the official video. But, I guess that guy with the (Greek?) name did this as some kind of fan appreciation.
        I wasn’t sure if you had seen it before. But I hoped that it would give you some inspiration for your big 4th of July montage.
        I liked your Pacific Rim idea from before. I had forgotten that the Jaeger required 2 people working in unison to successfully operate it.
        Looking forward to whatever teasers you can put out for what you got so far.
        After seeing Predator Badlands, they had Super 8 on again on one of the premium channels (forgot that was also Elle Fanning).
        Some of that footage would’ve gone nicely in the Exogenisis. Not sure if any of that would work for the artistic direction you have envisioned.
        Oh, I guess The Whole Bloody Affair is in theaters now.
        Unfortunately it’s excluded from A-List membership.

      4. Muse is so awesome; perfect birthday present! I’ve seen them twice, once for The Resistance tour and once on The 2nd Law tour. Matt Bellamy shattered crystal with the vocal+Guitar shred combo. Plus classical piano? Sheesh!🔥

        Saw Kill Bill in theaters last weekend. It was special man. Honestly, not a fan of the changes though. Would’ve preferred the original cut. But whatevs. Wasn’t much of a difference.

        Glad you got to see The Whole Bloody 4+ hours!
        Yeah, really like our A-List membership. But, it has its limitations. This one we were excluded from (along with Fathom Events and usually concerts).
        Nice that you got to see Muse twice!
        I would definitely see them again.
        A lot of bands just put on a concert.
        But this!
        This was a SHOW!
        Best live performance I’ve ever seen.

Forgot the Stranger Things scene music track is The Runaways👍 Yeah as far as, in-you-face, teenage punk rebellion, it probs doesn’t get better than them😎

  5. Can’t wait for Stranger Things 5. Still, debating whether or not to see Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair. 4 hours is a lot of time to spend in the theater. As for your question, my suggestion is Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

    1. I am limiting my expectations to the extreme. But excited for it too!… Yeah it’s a commitment but also a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to see a modern classic on the big screen! Of course I’ll be there, given how close I’ve been to the film the past two years.

    1. Dang Everybody’s saying Fast Times at Ridgemont High. It’s one of those classics I’ve not seen. Youtube’d the scenes. It won’t work in the montage—  I didn’t give people enough context… I think I’m gonna double down on Baby Doll and The Bride’ to tell the bulk of this pregnancy bit.

      1. Oh, I noticed you guys commenting on the Runaways (Joan Jett’s first band).
        Remember, in Sucker Punch, they play The Runaways ‘Cherry Bomb’ in Babydoll’s Dream Dance sequence where they have the Mech Suit.
        Not sure if you can use that clip in what you are editing…

      2. Grrreat catch!.. That’s not even on the soundtrack. For Mecha suit I was thinking to mashup with Pacific Rim / do the whole Hemi-sync bit. Like maybe that’s the plot device that could show how Baby Doll and Sweet Pea are same, ya know?… Wanna write that episode? I’m hoping to get there maybe in 3 years😅

        Sucker Punch was on again on one of the premium channels. I didn’t restart it. But, did watch it again from Babydoll’s 3rd and final mission.
        This time I watched some of the end credits too, as there was still some video accompanying it.
        You are quite masterful!
        As many times as I’ve seen it, this was the FIRST time I noticed that the image at the top of your page is actually from Sucker Punch end credits!
        Previously I mistook the dancer legs in a row as being The Rockettes.

        Features pretty hilarious daydream sequence of suburban dads doing a Lawnmower musical dance sequence.

    I think they are doing the Kill Bill double feature here too.

    I remember in the first decade of the millennium, Tarantino released a Grindhouse double feature (Planet Terror and Deathproof).
    It featured some pretty awesome fake trailers in between (Machete, Thanksgiving, Don’t and Werewolf Women of the SS).

      1. Yes. I watched the WB music video of the entire song this morning. We don’t get to see all of it in the theatrical end credits.
        It has a lot of Pizazz that the Bryan Ferry version lacked (1975 wasn’t really up to music video standards)
        I particularly enjoyed the part in the Oscar Isaac version when it takes on a French flair with accordion accompaniment.
        Props to Carla Gugino for staying in character and singing in a Russian accent.

        Hope you can come up with a Love is the Drug montage…

      3. The full version is an actual scene in the Extended Cut on Blu-Ray. Around the 22 minute mark. Agreed it’s a great scene! I borrowed some in Episode 1: Face Off (Part 1/2) but over a different music track…. Maybe we just play the whole scene as is! Like in a future episode .
