  1. So once again, the hero is called and he rises to the occasion. Homer still matters. The tragedy is Americans don’t even know why they are drawn to these myths of superheroes. Western Civilization traces back to fundamental concepts of right and wrong hatched in ancient Greece and now appear in a multiplex near or in every hometown in the country. Superman is who we all want to be. But I could do without the dog.

    1. The Hero’s Journey is Tried and True! Have you heard? Chris Nolan is making The Odyssey starring Matt Damon. Due out next summer. Film and Law share a common ancestorπŸ‡¬πŸ‡·πŸ›οΈπŸŽ

  3. I already said what I wanted under https://experiencefilm.net/2025/05/13/superman-thing/

I’m glad the future of the new cinematic DC era looks bright. I love comics, and even though my first comic book movie was Superman, I fell in love with Spider-Man as soon as I saw it. Especially when my aunt brought me a stack of comics from Canada (Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, and Iron Man) during one of her visits. My proper introduction to Batman was with Tim Burton’s movie. We didn’t have DC or Marvel comics in old Yugoslavia, so I grew up mostly with European comics. American comics (The Phantom, Flash Gordon, Star Wars, Billy the Kid, Lone Ranger…) were only available as part of a magazine that published various strips and comics inside its pages, in between articles and pop culture news. I’m more of a Marvel than a DC fan, but I love and read both. Especially when I got older, I felt closer to a more serious tone of DC. At the same time, Marvel matured (I love the Defenders series with all the individual series like Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and Luke Cage).

To sum it up, I got tired of so many actors playing Superman, but this new trailer made me hopeful that the well has not run dry.

    1. There is plenty to love about James Gunn’s new Superman, even from the trailer. I’m doubly excited from reading your perspective – a true fan of Superman and so many comics. David Corenswet seems like a perfect cast. I am unfamiliar with the actor but he seems to embody the purest elements of both Henry Cavill and Christopher Reeves. More Reeves in playful humor. Very exciting.

  4. Christopher Reeve shall always be my Superman but I’m pretty excited for what James Gunn will do with this one. I think it’s cool that Corenswet is also a Juilliard grad like Reeve and I can’t wait to see Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor aka hot Lex 😍

  5. Wow , thanks!

I enjoyed that. I’m not big on the super heroes, but I do love the Christopher Reeves Superman.

Great trailer. I hope the movie lives up to it!

  6. I’m never going to bet against James Gunn but I just can’t get excited about this movie. The most interesting thing to me right now is the presence of Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner. Maybe we’ll get to see G’nort at some point, too …

  7. A lot’s riding on this to be a success–I wish them all luck. They have a good chance with Gunn at the helm.

As more than one President following Gerald Ford remarked: Character Matters.

  9. Sorry I took so long to get to this post. I don’t have anyone in my WordPress Reader and I have to check out sites individually, and yours is so often un-updated.

Superman is less interesting than most superheroes, because he’s so impervious to damage. Why would you root for a machine that can’t be beat? Only kryptonite slows him down. It must be hell coming up with new comic book ideas for him to fight.

No, give me Batman of Spider-man, any day over Superman.
