Alpha Omega

“I don’t care much for this. Pretending we’re back where we started. I want to know where we’re going.” — Cooper, Interstellar

If you watched the new montage you may have seen these Greek letters at the end. It’s time to qualify them. Let’s cut straight to it.

Alpha is will and Omega is perception… Actor, observer… Leader, advisor… Athlete, artist… Giver, receiver… Extrovert, introvert… Masculine, feminine…Yang, yin.

Alpha is Red, the first visible color of the spectrum. Red like the warrior’s blood-stained armor, the flame in his eye. Omega is Blue. Blue like the pre-cog’s subterranean pool in fluorescent light.

Nobody is entirely one or the other. Nor is the dichotomy confined to personality. It’s situational also. For example, the take-charge personality film director becomes Omega when she looks through the camera. We wear many hats in work and in life.

It takes two to tango. The partner who leads the dance is the alpha, regardless of gender. Although dancing and fighting are better described with Yin and Yang – a separate but similar dichotomy. Alpha/Yang gives. Omega/Yin receives.

I have provided two situational examples of Alpha & Omega. Now I’ll leave you with the quintessential character example. I challenge you to name one or a few of your own. Real life or fiction. There is no better fictional example than Captain Kirk and First Officer, Spock from Star Trek. Kirk is the hot-blooded, take-charge leader. Spock, the cool, rational advisor. Spock is only one type of Omega, however. The omega can also be an intuitive feeler like The Oracle from The Matrix. Or some other visionary. Equally, the Alpha can be rational. The operative word for Alpha is will. For Omega it is perception. What Schopenhauer was on to, I suppose. Now it’s your turn to crack this dichotomy

You are wise, my friend. I like your take on Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock, but as you know, long ago, people believed that as human blood is red, alien blood is blue!!🧐😅🤙🖖
