Hanzō’s Curse

“One or two frames off is the difference between clunky-clumsy crap and orgasmic rhythm.” -Quentin Tarantino.

The ‘bugs’ EF is encountering in the final render, border on the paranormal – they’re so insidious, so maddening.

This can only be explained by the fact that I misspelled master samurai / sword maker legend, Hattori Hanzō in the end credits (a blunder which I have since fixed). But too late – I’ve pissed off the gods of Japan. Now inside my head a wise-cracking old silver-fox scolds me in broken english, “YOU-a-should be caring for fam-a-ry. Not-a wasting-you-life on stupid-a-VIDEO!” (“… an old man filled with regret!”)

🤬😤🙄

…The exact problem I’m having now is that the synchronization of Part 2 is perfect on my local MP4 file, but out of sync once same file is uploaded to Vimeo / Youtube. The picture jumps ahead of the audio by a couple frames which is more than enough to ruin the entire experience as its so rhythmic and action oriented. I’ve shared sync paranoia before here (A Crouching Tiger). But this is not the same problem. This, my friends, is a goddamned curse.

Please wish me luck in solving this torture by tomorrow. And of course weigh in if you’ve experienced this problem and/or might know the solution. Thanks.

  1. Hi EF, sorry I can’t help much as most of my animations don’t require such precise editing. But I could suggest checking your video type is using the matching audio codec (though I don’t know why that would affect only certain points in the sequence). Anyhow, I usually use an FFMpeg in a Matroska container with H.264 video codec and Mp4 audio if that helps (probably not 🤔). Fingers are crossed you figure it out.

  2. That’s a tricky one but I’d try a few different video platforms to see if the problem is not on your side.

I love your sense of humor in the face of this frustration. That’s the spirit!

    1. I have updated all videos today. I believe there was a total mis-sync on part 1 that I have since corrected (Lips were behind sound by 0.2167 seconds.) Part 2 is also significantly improved (I think🤞) Thanks for all you support, my friend👊🥋🙏🏼
