French Exit

“Just slip out the back, Jack. Make a new plan, Stan. You don’t need to be coy, Roy. Just get yourself free.”

Liberte! As of tonight I am on indefinite hiatus from the job that is destroying me. All I had to do was not schedule no mo’. Death spiral over. And if anybody from my company reads this – ‘it’s not you, it’s me.’ Great company, great people. I’d love to come back when I am healthy again.

Now we free ball the next month, attenuating the financial descent with the odd jobs, while finishing certifications for the new jobs. Then, with a swig of grandpa’s ol’ cough medicine we roll this baby upside down and back over again for a graceful (ish) landing upon greener pasture. Don’t worry, I’ve done this a thousand times.

l repeat, we are inverted.

Mental quality is so poor right now. To give you an idea of the carnage, to find the cover image for this post I google’d “French painting woman- boobs.” Sighed upon re-reading the philistinism.

Not processing new information. Haven’t read or watched anything all summer. Except Inside Out 2. Saw it 6 weeks ago. Loved it, but have yet to articulate a review.

The next montage is blossoming into 3 parts. The first is a cradle of filth. Absolute moral depravity. But no different from 80% of the pop music videos on the web in that regard, so… Hang with me, I’ll iron it out.

Yes, I loved the olympics opening ceremony – probs the most creative thing I’ve seen. I get that parts were offensive but “after all, miss, this is France!” Vive la liberté!

  1. Your reference to France and your situation reminds me of the episode when Churchill flew to Paris during the German invasion in May 1940 to speak to the commanding general of the French army, Gamelin. From Manchesters The Last Lion:

Then he asked him where his strategic reserve was: “Où est la masse de manoeuvre?” Gamelin shook his head and replied: “Aucune.” He had none.

  2. Sorry to hear about your mental decline. My wife has been struggling for years and she reached a breaking point recently. Now she’s doing better due to new medication and adjustment of the rest of her pills. So I hope you find your balance soon!

    1. Yes I struggle too. I am glad she is doing better with medication adjustment. I am usually able to manage mine, but sometimes it means I need to leave work, unfortunately. It’s been a steady decline all summer so I knew I needed out. Yes, finding balance.

  3. You did by yourself what I was forced to do. I’d hated my job for several years by the time I got laid off last year. The resulting sense of relief and freedom was exhilarating. And you even have a plan! lol

    PROPS 🙂 🙂 🙂

      1. Props to your wife, too!! ‘Cause I actually can’t find a full-time job in my industry, which apparently is dead, for some reason (closed captioning) so I’ve been freelancing. But your wife is probably more open-minded than I am…or maybe more variously skilled. I’m not willing to go very far outside of captioning. It will be my demise, lol

      2. She’s a general doctor, but she worked for two farms companies for years. Now she’s in poly clinic working directly with patients making sure their quality of life improves by listening and trying to figure out what’s the underlying problem not just prescribing medication for superficial issues they might have at the moment.

  4. You are welcome, E.F. Hang in there. Yes. Onward we go! And I don’t know you well at all, but I get this feeling that you’ll be more than fine.

And to your follower Uri–his wife is a BOSS. Such important work. Helping people and making the light in the world shine a little brighter each day. 🙂

  5. Great post! Mental quality is so poor right now, and I deeply miss Vive la liberté! However, there are still fifty ways to leave your lover.
PS: In the early eighties, I sang this song to a beautiful Swedish girl to get rid of her boyfriend!😉🤙
