Wax-On

“If you want to change the world, pick up your pen and write.” – MLK Jr.
“The purpose of a writer is to keep civilization from destroying itself.” – Albert Camus

MLK’s quote sounds a bit too idealistic, doesn’t it? Well guess what, brothers and sisters, a writer is going to draft the bill that ends the corruption, saving this world. A writer is going to pen the story that reminds people why the world is worth saving at all. Why a life is worth saving. Why life is beautiful. Why it is precious. If they do not we are lost.

Today I am neither of these writers. You might be. Today I just feel like I have brain damage, to be honest…

(This sonG though..) Just heard it today. It’s angsty, may not be your vibe. So I’ll share a second song from the same genre (low-fi indie rock) that is more soothing. A choose-your-own adventure. Jagged rocks? Or wet sand🤷🏽

…There’s this great clip of a skateboarder explaining why skateboarding should not be an olympics sport, but damn I lost it in the algorithm.. Anyways I think this song sums it up perfectly.

And this next song is few years older. From the Lost in Translation soundtrack. “For relaxing times…” 🥃

  1. These days, I have the same cobbles way walking as you, bro, and a damaged brain! However, there is a quote from the Persian Poet Rumi: “Yesterday, I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today, I am wise, so I am changing myself.”

    Take care. 🖖🌞

    1. Rumi – Oh I forgot about Rumi! My late uncle (was a true protector of nature and citizen of the planet) He loved Rumi. And this quote is so perfect because today I understand for the first time truly what this means. Thank you, my friend🙏🏼🧞‍♂️🖖

      1. To Quote (John Dunsworth) before he passed. “When your dead, your dead…but your a little less dead if you contribute something”

I often think about my and others legacies. Will I be remembered, will I be forgot. Did I make an impact either big or small to the world.

Everybody has a role in this theatre production of life. My blog is just for me to be the mad dog barking at the moon because it winked at me. What I write I write because I try to make sense of things. I’m not always right but that’s why debate was created. To learn is the first step to evolving one’s self. Acceptance is knowing that what you learn isn’t always right but willing to change brings growth.

  2. I just watched Lost In Translation again a few days ago. Really enjoyed that film, as well as the soundtrack. Nice to see “Girls” here. Here’s hoping those writers get their game on soon and fix some stuff…whomever they may be.🙂

  3. Great quote! Yeah, the world sure needs more writers and artist. Writing every day can be a chore though, so when I get a bit bored or fed up I just go drawn and paint for a while. It seems to recharge my little grey cells and lets me unwind. Guess it’s just another outlet for my creativity?

  4. I knew I had that “Death in Vegas” song, but I also know I don’t have the “Lost in Translation” soundtrack, so I had to go and check. I have it on the “D.E.B.S.” soundtrack. “D.E.B.S.”, if you haven’t seen it, is an absurd comedy about a girls’ school for spies which is way more entertaining than it should be and is also notable for the presence of, among others, Jordana Brewster, Jimmi Simpson, Meagan Good, and Devon Aoki.

  5. I miss your comments, E.F. Where you been?

Yeah, writers are important. Without them, no movies get made, that’s for sure. (Yeah, we lost our writers, so we’re going to wing it. You stand over there and throw a punch at THAT GUY and ad lib something interesting as you throw it. Then he’ll ad lib something back. Yeah…..)

  6. You almost motivated me to write something good. Almost. 😅 I need a shove not a nudge, but you’ve got me thinking. 💭 and that’s good because my brain seems similar to yours… a little damaged. 🤣🙈🤢

  7. The first song, the singer’s voice reminded me of some of those “call to prayers” that are on YouTube. Have you ever heard one? Some are SO beautiful….! Very spiraling out and wavering and seeking-like. I don’t even remember the second one, and I saw that movie! But so long ago. So so so so long ago, lol

I saw this quote a while ago and scribbled it on a piece of paper. It’s a Navajo saying, evidently. It inspired me enough to want to write something using it… but I never did. Maybe one day: When all of our stories have been written down, the world will end.

It sounds ominous, a little bit. But maybe it’s just common sense? 🙂

  8. Wow, I certainly don’t feel like I’m one of those writers described in the quotes! I do think that writing (or any creative endeavor) is good for the soul… and ultimately the world around us. I did take a week-long break from review writing to go on holiday to Croatia, and it felt good to get away + be inspired by new experiences.
