My Good Writing

My good writing only happens between the hours of 3 and 6 am… Which is why I don’t write much. The conditions have to be just right, you know. In my case, the sobriety needle must rest precisely between “HAMMERED” and “HUNGOVER DON’T OR I’ll THROW A SHOE AT YOU”.

It’s gotta be the dead of night, after a fun social evening (rare as a jabberwocky). I must have passed out watching Team America World Police or a comparably outrageous and offensive comedy, and been awoken *spontaneously* three hours later to the blue screen of death and proceeded to roll off the couch like there was a goddamned fire, desperately searching for the remote to turn the TV off. Found it. Hydrated…

Furthermore, I must have, upon waking in the dead of night and turning off the blue screen of death in utter horror, and hydrating, must have then re-cozied up with my cell phone, proceeded to visit every single page on the entire internet, watched at least 10,000 Youtube shorts, plugged my phone in to charge, strolled to the kitchen for a snack, returned to the couch, re-cozied up with my phone laptop, played 3 games of chess, paused. And then deliberately made the decision to try an write something for the blog.

If any single one of these prerequisites is not met… If I am not in this mythical Goldilocks region of space time, then it’s all just meh… Maybe this is how women feel about sex🤔 Guys on the other hand are like, Anytime Anywhere All at Once, baby. <– (The sequel😂).

I can’t tell you how many posts I’ve scrapped in recent months. So much negative. Visions of the apocalypse… I quit my job earlier this week after very nearly suffering a heart attack from being criminally over-worked. A full week’s bedrest, a heart healthy diet, and some magical, Chat GPT-certified😉 herbal remedies and I’m UP like Charlie’s Grandpa. The body is definitely still broken, but morale is high, and for a moment at least, I’m having fun again. And that is a very good thing, isn’t it?

  1. That explains some of your fever dream posts over the years. 😆 This reminded me of France Prešeren a Slovene national poet who reportedly could not write sober or at least all his best work was dune under the influence. Classic suffering artist story. It’s very hard to get good art without suffering. So keep suffering for our pleasure! 😇

    1. I just learned his poem, “Zdravljica” is Slovenia’s National Anthem. Listened to, and read the translation and found it so very refreshing:

      (English Translation)

      God’s blessing on all nations,
Who long and work for that bright day,
      When o’er earth’s habitation
      No war, no strife shall hold its sway;
      Who long to see
      That all man free
No more shall foes, but neighbours be.

      1. Yes we’re very proud of its meaning especially being close to 200 years old. It is also a drinking song, which shows what has been a national sport in my country for as long as we remember. Since I don’t drink myself I’m a natural black sheep. 😅

      2. I love it. Ha! We are black sheep in our own ways. I seem to be the only one of my countrymen who doesn’t want to spend half a million dollars on a house just so he can mow the grass on his singular off day.

  2. Well, I hope you made so much money from being criminally overworked, that you won’t have to find a new job for a long time. Then maybe between the hours of 3am to 6am every night, you can write the great American novel.

    1. If only, right!? Actually was making better money than I ever have, yet barely in the green each month despite. Rent has skyrocketed here in Cincinnati. Went up 30% on average in 2022 alone. Made national headlines. It’s bonkers, man. And it’s not just rent either… Yeah, I’ll be combing those classified starting tomorrow😂 But I like where your head’s at!

      1. It is a fine city. And The Football teams’ success in recent years has drawn a lot of attention. Honestly though, the rent hike was somewhat long-overdue. Rent had been considerably cheaper than most major U.S. cities forever. I should’ve seen it coming, not that it would’ve changed my behavior…

  3. Don’t worry EF, I can confirm that I have moments of “dreamspace designing” where I am on the verge of being asleep but then have lots of ideas for a 3D model I am building at the time. Sometimes I would include the idea or part in a daze or I’d go to bed and then awake the next day to “discover” I had added something. Once I designed a whole hilt without consciously knowing and found the files the next day.
Sometimes “lost days” can be the most productive….maybe cos we’re relaxed and dreamin’!
p.s. hope you keep well and your employment woes don’t last too long.

    1. I love when those wake-up and “A-ha!” moments occur. Different areas of the brain get to mingle during sleep, which might explain it. At any rate, keep dreamin’ up fantastic art, my friend! And thanks for the comment. Cheers.

  4. I can relate to this, but I keep writing no matter what. I often say to myself, “If people only knew what I was going through behind the scenes.” So many times where I’ve fought the clock with just one review head start. I’m not always in the mood, but I can always find my voice when I need it.

    1. I love hearing about your writing process. Am most impressed by the tenacity, and quality of your posts. I know you must fight your own battles behind the scenes. I pray for good outcomes for you and your loved ones… I have to break the 4th wall sometimes now just to maintain my sanity. Mad world out there.

  5. you lead a very hectic life; I got exhausted just reading it; don’t feel too bad though; I ditch posts too, though the current one I’m hanging onto: sometimes you have to believe in yourself —

  6. Hey mate! I know what you mean; I have suffered from backache for some days and can’t concentrate well. Sorry for your good heart. You might take care of your health?! And honestly, when I am in bed, I have many ideas to write and can write them, though in my head!! Recover soon.👍

    1. My back feels like Batman’s after getting his ass kicked by Bane!.. This was the First hard alcohol I’ve had in months. Only had a couple drinks but my tolerance was 0!😆 So I got really drunk. Did it to celebrate shedding the back-breaking burden of my current job as an Amazon delivery driver (Bad idea). I am back on my way to better health already! Salud🇮🇹 and thanks for the great comment✌️

  7. At least you HAVE a window. I’ve lost all my steam for blogging lately. Even once a month is sometimes a burden. I don’t know how people keep their schedules up.
Hang in there! And remember to laugh. It helps. Ha.
