Hi EF, Happy Star Wars Day…I have to say this is “All too easy!” – Vader in Empire Strikes Back. But I think I like this quote better, “The ability to speak does not make you intelligent” from Qui-Gon, it was just so swiftly delivered it cut Jar-Jar off in his tracks.

The first quote makes me smile. Because It’s perfect coming from you, a real Jedi. And Qui Gon’s swift statement rings true! He and Jar Jar are such clashes of personality haha

Lucas had a tendency of creating characters like Jar-Jar and the Ewoks who were cute or trending cutesy, as if balancing all the seriousness of the rest of his saga. Same with his balancing female and balance by throwing a bone to the female wing of his character set and thereby fan base.

I feel like Balance is so quintessential Star Wars it makes sense that it would seep into the actual production in ways you mention, Catxman. Carrie Fischer’s Leia was popular, especially with women. And Lucas wrote the character with feminine sensibility, so he deserves some credit for that. And her strong female lead successors have all been hits as well. I’d say I probably talk to as many girls who like Star Wars as guys. And it has always been like that my whole life. Can’t say the same about Trekkies.

May the 4th be with you too! One of my favorite underrated quotes is: “Obi-Wan, now that’s a name I have not heard in a long time” from Obi-Wan.

It is one of the main points in my life, mate! I can remember how it began, and I watched the first (or better say the fourth) episode on video cassette those days in Iran shortly after IR. Thank you so much for the quotes; they are great lessons and full of memories. 🙏✌👍

I love the ultimately uplifting message behind Star Wars. Happy belated Fourth be With You!
But you know what, on that topic, especially considering the first quote you have up there, it was extremely unsettling that when they cast John Bodega for the new movies, a ton of wrath and what can only be described as racial animus came out against him online from many, many, many fans. And then I just sat back and wondered: what’s the point of all the lofty thoughts and philosophies and higher thinking of Star Wars if you aren’t even going to try to apply it to your real life? I guess it just remains a movie and a fantasy and doesn’t move beyond that. 😦

Thanks for the great comment, LOT. It’s awesome to hear you like Star Wars too! About the online haters, I think it actually proves the great wisdom of Star Wars even more! The Dark Side of The Force is as real as The Light. And The internet reveals the Darkness in us. In face-face conversation we tend to hide our opinions that are not politically correct. But people bare it all online.

Yeah, I guess duality is part of life on earth, right? SOMEONE has to go toward the Dark Side, lol, or the Light would be….what? Boring? Meaningless?
BTW–honestly, it’s my husband who’s the huge S.W. fan, much bigger than me. Meaning he was 15 when it premiered in NYC. He skipped school and saw it like five times the first day. Since then he’s probably seen it over 300 times, lol

That’s so cool. I’m jealous he got to see the premiere in theaters!

Balance is so quintessentially Star Wars, thematically of course, but it’s balance in craft too, as you point out Catxman. Art imitates life. Carry Fischer’s Leia was popular with women audience because Lucas allowed her to think for herself. and that drew a lot of new fans in to the story. And the trend of strong and robust female characters continued from there. I talk to as many girl fans of Star Wars as I do guys. Can’t say the same about Trekkies.

My favorite quote used to be “Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try.” and from training in 3 different styles of karate in my life I had to obey “You must unlearn what you have learned.”
But lately, this one speaks to me the most profoundly:
“Always remember – Your focus determines your reality.” – Qui-Gon Jinn
