La La Land (2016) is a colorful musical about a jazz pianist (Ryan Gosling) who falls for an aspiring actress (Emma Stone) in the City of Stars.
“Strangers in the night… What were the chances?” Don’t tell Mia and Sebastian. The film also pays homage to 1940s-50s Hollywood classics like Casablanca, Singin’ in The Rain, and An American in Paris. Also, can you name the 1958 classic psychological thriller in which Mia’s lavender dress first appeared in front of those EFC approved neon green window curtains?
Ryan Gosling vs. Gene Kelly in Singin’ in The Rain (1952)As far as The Inside Out goes, Joy is clearly at the helm for most of this film. And if there’s an archetypal image for her in general, besides Gene Kelly twirling around the street lamp, it might be Emma Stone soaring like an airplane in that yellow cocktail dress far above the city.
