Remember when that guy threw his shoe at George W?
In the middle of a press conference?
Haven’t seen a shoe fly since.
What gives?
Have we lost the art?
Of losing a shoe?
Of taking one?

Haha… 😁
🙂
There’s a very long Wikipedia article about this subject. Most shoes thrown occur outside the U.S. and are politically motivated. These are acts of frustration and don’t accomplish anything, but what else can you do with bad/dangerous leaders and when voters are asleep?
Ah indeed there is a Wiki page. More popular in Arabic countries… I think a shoe or two across the bow sends a strong message— if you’re gonna act like a clown then we’re gonna treat you like one. It shatters the illusion of power in that moment, reducing an ego-inflated politician to a vulnerable human being just like the rest of us.
Well put. A pie in the face is also good, the most well-known incident involving socially conservative singer and anti-gay activist Anita Bryant.
It’s an Islamic symbol of disrespect, as the sole of a shoe is seen as “dirty”. To show another the sole of your shoe can be taken in a similar fashion. Don’t sit with a crossed leg up!
I don’t recall this but it’s been a while. 🙃
I do remember that. Unfortunately, I am old enough to. I remember just looking at my mum as she threw a shoe or a slipper at me whenever she was angry…
I’ll bet you were not as deserving of The Shoe as America’s foreign diplomats.
True. At least my attacker loved me.
It’s an unforgettable scene! In Arab culture, throwing or hitting someone with a shoe is a deeply insulting gesture, and I believe Georgy truly deserved it! 😁😅
However, in the end, it is a “losing art”! 🖖🫵👣
E.F., nice to be here again. I have never, ever felt the desire to take a shoe off and throw it at anyone. Heck, I don’t think even if it was just laying there without my foot in it, I would pick it up and throw it at anyone. I find it to be an odd impulse. I do fear if it becomes more popular, the International Olympic Committee may subsequently move to make it an Olympic event.😁
love it ! you’ve caught the lingo perfectly 🙂
