EF 10.02 – The Electric State (2025)

The Electric State is a 320 million dollar straight-to-streaming piss fire. And EF can’t stop giggling about it this morning between hiccups… Was this script another AI abomination from the SAG-AFTRA strike like Madame Web? It’s god-awful.

This hostage situation between Millie BB and Netflix has gone on long enough. Lawyer, help us (ring ring). Stranger Things is my favorite show. But she’s over it by now understandably. How many dozens of camera hours must the Duffers have of her screaming and crying? Actors aren’t machines! Speaking of…

What’s especially hilarious about the present hot mess of short-circuited robotronics is that it was made by The Disney/Marvel Avengers dream team – The Russo Brothers and their long-time collaborators. Including editor, Jeffrey Ford who EF had the privilege of meeting in film school a few years ago. Been out of the loop since (per usual) so maybe someone can explain to me how the hell Netflix acquired these studs? Maybe that exorbitant price tag answers my question.

I met the editor, Jeffrey Ford (The Avengers, Captain America, Crazy Heart) in film school a few years ago. Asked him what it was like working with Jeff Bridges, and yes I felt star-struck. I’ll bet Jeffrey would agree The Electric State is not his best work. But again, it’s the screenplay that’s the real culprit in this cinematic debacle. And the premise.

Watch Electric State when you’re too wired up (or fried) to do anything else. The visual effects are there and Millie gives it her all, God love her. But there’s no point paying attention or sympathizing with a story about inanimate objects. Robots are not people. They do not have feelings and we should not have feelings for them. It would have been better and funnier to disparage them. This adaptation is soulless.
