I’m cold, but rowing with this icy current. Embracing The “Wu wei” principle of Taoism.
This is a short post about the creative process. Am currently re-reading “Artist’s Way,” and “Save the Cat,” to spark the next production. (Psst, the edit has begun ;). And no it’s not about this movie.
The Jackson Pollack scene from Ex Machina (2014) is one of my all-time favorites. Issac asks us what would happen if the messy drip painter tried to be perfect. His pupil replies, “he never would have made a single mark.” I think the message is universal – if you want to create something, make that first mark. Great advice for over-analyzers like myself.
Have you seen Ex Machina? Share a tip from your own creative process if you’d like.

Addendum
In Ex Machina (2014), Gleeson plays a computer programmer who is invited to test his CEO’s (Oscar Isaac) new AI, named “Ava” (Alicia Vikander) at a remote facility. The relationship between the two men is perfectly fascinating. A great Alpha-Omega dynamic, speaking of. Their personalities clash, but compliment each other in wholly unpredictable, beautiful ways. Giving rise to new life.

excellent: my best moves as in ‘Flibbertigibbet’ to ‘A New Way’, both recent posts, come from NOT thinking but doing —
Fascinating! And really enjoying these new poems. They are full of character. Thanks.
Iβve seen it and liked it but canβt really recall much else.
The dynamic between the men is as fascinating as the films theses of exploring artificial intelligence.
The dynamic certainly stuck with me as much as the film itself.
Absolutely loved Ex_Machina. One of many great movies from 2014. Lots of thought-provoking questions and amazing Oscar winning CGI.
I was excited when it won the Oscar for Visual Effects! And about the original screenplay nom that year.
Wow, it looks like a brilliant tip! You have opened another door, mate. Good luck with that editing.ππ€ππ

I love Ex Machina. I’ve learned to stop fantasising about a sequel. I believe Alex Garland specified that he’s not making one.

The sequel is a neat thought-experiment. But the title is a non sequitur (wait that doesn’t mean what I think it mean… But I really wanted to use itπ)
Don’t worry, I understood where you were going with it. π
I missed you, EF. Where have you been? And of course I’m hungry for your comments at my site.

I figure the world is re-aligning, and we’ll all see a boost in our visitor numbers soon.
I liked Ex Machina β great cast, even if it didn’t really do anything to surprise me. My creative process used to be to “finish writing the book, then go back and fix it so the beginning fits the ending”; planning the entire thing out ahead of time was never my strong suit. π
The beginning is so tough! Hearing about your strategy is already helping me, thank you.
I LOVE Ex Machina!! Such a good movie and Isaac killed it in this movie! This is a great scene and that dance scene is awesome, too!
Ah, I’ll have to watch Ex Machina!
I do a lot of pencils sketching. My tip: All you need is a pencil, paper ….. and one big ass eraser!
