EFC Classics – Lost Highway (1997)

Feat. The Music of Lou Reed

“I like to remember things my own way… Not necessarily the way they happened.”

I was halfway through my 2nd viewing of David Lynch’s Lost Highway (1997). It must have been daytime, for a narrow ray of sunlight shone through the barricaded window of my apartment living room, which now resembled Plato’s cave. I was a prisoner in this artificial nocturne of my own device. My only knowledge of the outside world came via the shadowy figures on the television screen in front of me. EFC 2.01 – Rogue One

Feat. The Music of Lissie (In a special EFC music video!)

“I am one with the force, the force is with me.”

The writers of Rogue One have a message for us. Just like Galen Erso, they buried it in their creation. The message is simple, but powerful, and it has to do with The Force. Continue reading “EFC 2.01 – Rogue One”

EFC 14: Manchester By The Sea (A Cold Fish of a Drama)

Accidents happen and they determine our fate irrevocably. Or so it would seem. Manchester By The Sea (2016) is a story of pain written from a cold and naturalistic point of view. The film sheds light on the phenomenon of grief poignantly. However, like its protagonist, the film is challenged in seeing beyond, where spiritual redemption lies forever waiting in grief’s shadow.  Continue reading “EFC 14: Manchester By The Sea (A Cold Fish of a Drama)”

EFC 11: Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children

Feat. The Music of Florence + The Machine

“We don’t discuss the future here. We enjoy living in the here and now.”

Welcome to the darkly fantastic word of Miss Peregrine, a place where time stands still but hearts beat fast, and gardens bloom when spell is cast. Lush and green; Oh what a scene! Where dreams are projected like Kodak carousels, and peculiarity’s the spice of life; forget all your strife. And may you stay forever young. Continue reading “EFC 11: Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children”

EFC 09: The Light Between Oceans

Feat. The Music of Beach House (in a special EFC music video!)

“We can’t rightly ever talk about the future, if you think about it. We can only talk about what we imagine, or wish for.”

In the introductory post, I suggested that good films make us think, and even better ones make us feel something. Well, if you go by this rule of thumb, then The Light Between Oceans (2016) is better film. It’ll make you feel, even if that feeling is Sadness.  Continue reading “EFC 09: The Light Between Oceans”

EFC 07: Sicario

Feat. The Music of Lana Del Rey & Johan Johansson

“You should move to a small town, somewhere the rule of law still exists. You will not survive here. You are not a wolf, and this is a land of wolves now.”

Lady Justice, blind as she is, cannot see those treacherous individuals who thwart her efforts. Even as they stand beside her… Continue reading “EFC 07: Sicario”
